Government College Women University Faisalabad began its journey as an intermediate college in 1934. It was promoted to Degree College in 1944, and postgraduate disciplines were introduced in 1985.

The long journey that started with a humble beginning reached its climax when the status of University was granted on 5th January 2013 through the Government College Women University Faisalabad Act. The university has since grown into a hub of educational, social, and cultural activities, maintaining close liaison with business and industrial communities.
