Hamdard University was established in 1991 by Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said (1920-1998), the founder of Hamdard Pakistan. The university is built around Madinat al-Hikmah (City of Wisdom), a 350-acre purpose-built campus established in 1983 on the outskirts of Karachi.
