Introduction

Provincial Health Services Academy (PHSA) is a public-sector institution located in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It operates under the administrative control of the Health Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and serves as the province's premier hub for allied health education and in-service training.

PHSA is the first institution of its kind in Pakistan, established to sustain capacity-building initiatives within the provincial health sector. It oversees a vast network of teaching and training institutions across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

History

The roots of PHSA trace back to the health sector reforms of the 1990s, when capacity building of the provincial health department became a priority. The Provincial Health Development Centre (PHDC) was elevated to the status of Pakistan's first Provincial Health Services Academy to sustain these initiatives.

The academy was formally established and given the status of an attached department under the Health Department. Over the years, it has grown into a network of 23 institutions, including 6 District Health Development Centers, 10 Colleges of Nursing, 4 Paramedic Institutes, and 4 Public Health Schools. PHSA marked its 26th Foundation Day in September 2025.

Academic Programs

PHSA offers a wide range of undergraduate and diploma programs through its allied institutions, focusing on paramedical sciences, nursing, and public health. Programs are affiliated with Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Medical Faculty.
