Admission Details - HEC Law GAT Test 2026
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, through its Education Testing Council (ETC), conducts the Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT) . It is mandatory for all law graduates seeking enrolment to the Bar as an Advocate under the rules of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) . Who Can Apply?
Those who have completed their Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent from a local or foreign university recognized by HEC/PBC are eligible to apply .
Test Curriculum and Pattern

The test pattern and syllabus are based on a Revised Curriculum, which can be downloaded from the HEC website .

The test will consist of Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) .
Qualifying Score and Validity

A score of 50 out of 100 is considered a qualifying score .

The test score remains valid as per the rules of the ETC.
Important Dates

Last Date for Online Registration: Sunday, July 19, 2026 (24:00 hours)

Law-GAT Test Date: Sunday, August 09, 2026

The test is conducted on a quarterly basis in major cities of Pakistan. For future dates, refer to the Test Calendar on the ETC website.
How to Apply (Step by Step)

Visit the official ETC website at http://etc.hec.gov.pk for online registration.

Carefully verify personal details (Name, CNIC number, Cell number, email address, etc.) before submission. Any mismatch will result in disqualification.

Upload a clear and recent Passport Size Picture with White or Blue Background.

Deposit the test fee through 1Link's Bill Invoice Payment Services using the generated consumer number.

After fee submission, click "Verify Online Payment" on the ETC Dashboard.

Select a Test Centre carefully from the list. Once selected, it cannot be changed after registration.

Review all information and click "SUBMIT" . Only "Submitted" applications will be considered.

Download your Roll Number Slip from the website one week before the test date. It will also be emailed.

On the test day, bring a printout of the Roll Number Slip and your Original valid CNIC/Passport to the test centre.
Ineligibility Criteria

Those who have already availed seven (07) attempts .
-
Those who have already qualified the Law-GAT.

Those who are currently enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree in Law .
Other Conditions
-
50% score is required to pass the test.
-
Applicants will have a maximum of 07 chances to pass the test.

Mobile phones or any electronic/communication/imaging devices are not allowed inside the test centre.
