History of Institute of Agricultural Sciences (IAGS)

The institute was established in 2011 when the University of the Punjab upgraded its Department of Mycology and Plant Pathology to the Institute of Agricultural Sciences. The renaming ceremony was inaugurated by the then Vice Chancellor. The discipline of Horticulture was later established in 2012.

Institute of Agricultural Sciences (IAGS) Statistics

IAGS has a strong academic community with a significant number of students and faculty members. At the time of a 2019 visit by the Provincial Minister for Agriculture, the institute had 75 PhD scholars and 439 M.Sc. (Hons.) students. Since its establishment, eleven batches of BS (Hons.) and eleven batches of M.Sc. (Hons.) programs have graduated. The institute has published a biannual scientific journal "Mycopath" and a quarterly newsletter 'Agricultural News'. It also established the First Fungal Culture Bank of Pakistan.
