The university was established as a project of the Fauji Foundation, a charitable trust for the welfare of ex‑servicemen of the armed forces and their dependents. The Fauji Foundation began its corporate operations in 1954, reactivating the Post War Services Reconstruction Fund set up in 1942. Today, it is among the largest business conglomerates in Pakistan, with 18 industries and a strategically diversified investment portfolio.
