Indus University began its journey as the Indus Institute of Higher Education (IIHE) in November 2004. It was officially established through a Legislative Act of the Sindh Assembly on November 28, 2005, and assented to by the Governor of Sindh on January 7, 2006. The institute was upgraded to university status on April 5, 2012, by the Provincial Assembly of Sindh.
