History of Karakoram International University (KIU)

The University was established in 2002 in Gilgit by a charter from the Federal Government. In July 2011, its Skardu campus was inaugurated, which was later upgraded to the independent University of Baltistan in 2017. In 2014, the Chancellor announced the establishment of KIU Hunza and the Women Campus, leading to the start of academic programs at KIU Hunza in 2016. Additionally, KIU's Ghizer and Diamer Campuses were established in 2018 under HEC's vision to provide higher education access at the district level.
