History of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU)

Founded as an intermediate residential college, the institution was originally housed in a building on Hall Road, Lahore, with a strength of only 60 students (25 boarders) and 13 staff members. It was affiliated with the University of the Punjab for undergraduate programs in 18 subjects. By 1950, the college had grown significantly, moving to its present location on Jail Road. The college was granted administrative and financial autonomy in 1990, became a degree-awarding institution in 1999, and was elevated to the status of a university on 10 September 2002. Over its long history, the university has played a vital role in producing numerous female professionals, including doctors, teachers, and leaders.
