The university traces its roots to Lahore Medical and Dental College (LMDC), which was established in 1997 as Punjab's first private medical college. LMDC became part of the Punjab Group of Colleges and was later awarded a university charter, transforming into Lahore University of Biological and Applied Sciences. Lahore UBAS is now the fourth university under the Punjab Group, alongside the University of Central Punjab (UCP), Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST), and Muhammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU).
