Introduction

University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir is a public-sector university located in Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Pakistan. Established in 1980, it is the oldest and largest institution of higher learning in the region. The university operates as a multi-campus, multi-discipline institution with its Main Campus in Muzaffarabad, along with the King Abdullah Campus, Neelum Campus, and Jhelum Valley Campus.

History

The University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir was founded in 1980 in Muzaffarabad, initially operating from a small campus. The university faced a major setback during the 2005 earthquake, which destroyed most of its buildings at the Muzaffarabad and Rawalakot campuses. A new replacement campus, financed by Saudi Arabia and named the King Abdullah Campus, was constructed over 1800 kanals and was handed over to the university in October 2019.
