About United Medical & Dental College UMDC Karachi
The college's academic legitimacy is firmly anchored by its essential regulatory and affiliatory credentials. It holds recognition from the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC), now the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC), which validates its undergraduate programs and ensures that graduates meet the national standards required for medical and dental licensure. Furthermore, its affiliation with Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), a leading public-sector medical university, is crucial for academic governance. This partnership means UMDC's curriculum, examination system, and degree awards are standardized and regulated under JSMU's framework, guaranteeing a level of quality assurance and parity with other affiliated institutions.
UMDC Karachi MBBS and BDS Programs
UMDC Karachi's core offerings include the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programs. These undergraduate courses are designed to follow an integrated curriculum, where foundational sciences are taught in the context of their clinical application from an early stage.
Preclinical Phase (First Two Years)
During the first two years, students study anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and pathology for MBBS, and dental anatomy and oral histology for BDS. The pedagogy combines lectures, problem-based learning, and practical sessions in well-equipped laboratories.
A strong emphasis on early clinical exposure is typical, aiming to cultivate professional skills, diagnostic thinking, and patient communication before students enter major hospital rotations.
Clinical Training (Next Three Years for MBBS, Next Two Years for BDS)
Clinical training is the cornerstone of UMDC Karachi's educational approach. This is facilitated through its affiliated teaching hospital(s), which provide students with hands-on experience in patient care. Under the supervision of experienced faculty, students rotate through departments such as medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and for dental students, operative dentistry, prosthodontics, orthodontics, and oral surgery.
They apply theoretical knowledge to real-world diagnosis, treatment, and management. For more opportunities in Sindh, check latest scholarships in Pakistan for all nationalities .
